Ingredients

  • 4-5 ripe pears (Bartlett or Bosc), peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2-3 tbsp sugar (adjust to how sweet the pears already are)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 star anise (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2/3 cup walnuts or pecans, toasted and roughly chopped

Method

Combine the pears, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, anise salt, and water in a saucepan. Simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, 15-20 minutes until the pears are soft and the liquid's syrupy. Off the heat, stir in the toasted nuts. Pull out the star anise if using. Allow to cool to room temperature and serve over any toasted nut, vanilla or coffee type ice creams.
